Ya'akov Edery
Minister of Immigrant Absorption and Minister of the Development of the Negev and Galilee

Ya'akov Edery was born in 1950 in Morocco, and immigrated to Israel in 1959. He earned a B.A. in Political Science and an M.A. in Public Administration from the University of Haifa.
During the 16th Knesset, Edery was appointed Deputy Minister of Internal Security in March 2003. He was also a member of the State Control Committee; the Committee for Immigration, Absorption and the Diaspora; and the Anti-Drug and Alcohol Abuse Committee. He has also served as Mayor of Or Akiva.
In January 2006, Edery was appointed Minister of Health, as well as Minister of Development of the Negev and Galilee, in the interim government.
During the 17th Knesset, he first served as Minister Without Portfolio, and then from July 2007 onwards as both Minister of Immigrant Absorption and Minister of the Development of the Negev and Galil.
He is married with two children.
