Yasser Abed Rabbo
Member of the PLO’s Executive Committee and advisor to Palestinian Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas

Born in Jaffa, Yasser Abed Rabbo has an MA in economics and political science from the American University in Cairo. In 1968, Abed Rabbo was a founding member of the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) and was Deputy Secretary General of the DFLP. In 1991, Abed Rabbo differed with the group and broke off relations, to head the Palestinian Democratic Group (FIDA) Abed Rabbo's experience in negotiating with Israel began in 1991 when he was a member of the Palestinian delegation to the Middle East Peace Conference in Madrid. He later headed the Final Status negotiations with Israel dealing with the sensitive issues of Jerusalem, Palestinian refugees, Israeli colonies, water and borders. Abed Rabbo held the post of Palestinian Authority Minister of Information and Culture and headed the PA Committee for education, culture and science. He has served on the PLO Executive Committee since 1971 and has acted as the head of the PLO Department of Information and Culture since 1973. In April 2003 Abed Rabbo was appointed as Minister of Cabinet Affairs in the Palestinian Cabinet.
After the victory of Hamas in the January 2005 elections, he no longer serves in the Palestinian cabinet.
Together with Yossi Beilin, he co-authored the unofficial Palestinian - Israeli Geneva peace initiative.
