The Telegraph and Independent i both report outrage from Israeli leaders over a false claim by Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas that Israeli forces “executed” a 13-year-old Palestinian. The injured Palestinian is alive and being treated in an Israeli hospital, after he and his 15 year old cousin stabbed two Israelis in north Jerusalem, including a 13-year-old on his bike. Furthermore,  Israeli leaders have accused Abbas of using the case to wilfully incite further violence.

In a Guardian op-ed, Israel’s Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan says that the current violence is fuelled by the “irresponsible lie” by Palestinian leaders that Israel is seeking to alter the status quo on the Temple Mount. He clarifies “in no uncertain terms” that no such plans exist. Erdan also says that “meaningful negotiations are necessary, a change of course is necessary,” but that security must be ensured for Israeli citizens.

Meanwhile, the Independent i covers comments made yesterday by Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who told a media conference that he is “perfectly open” to meeting Abbas plus other leaders including Jordan’s King Abdullah, in order to calm tensions and quell the violence.

The Guardian online covers comments by US Secretary of State John Kerry, who clarified that Israel has a “right to defend its existence” after appearing to accuse Israel of using excessive force to combat the recent attacks.

The Guardian also says that a Jewish Israeli man, who was mistaken for an Arab and stabbed by another Jewish Israeli man in an attempted revenge attack this week, has condemned all hate crimes and declared “we are all human beings.”

The Telegraph and Daily Mail both report that for the first time, Iran has displayed to the world its secret missile bunkers. Iranian television showed an underground bunker with long-range missiles apparently “stationed and ready” for use, according to Iranian military officials.

The Telegraph online suggests that Russia is reducing the number of air strikes it is carrying out in Syria, concluding that intervention has failed to hand President Assad’s forces a swift advantage.

In the Israeli media, Maariv, Yediot Ahronot and Israel Hayom lead with the 13-year-old Palestinian boy who President Abbas claimed had been “executed.” Maariv includes an admission from the boy from his hospital bed, that he “came to kill Jews.” Israel Hayom’s front page includes a picture of the boy in hospital accompanied by the ironic headline “The living dead.” Meanwhile, Israel Radio news notes that John Kerry yesterday warned Abbas not to further incite unrest and said that there was no justification for the current Palestinian violence. Haaretz reports comments made by Prime Minister Netanyahu, who indicated that he supports a meeting with Abbas, Kerry and Jordan’s King Abdullah in order to quell the current tensions.

Israel Radio news reports this morning that hundreds of rioting Palestinians entered the tomb of Biblical figure Joseph, a holy site for Jews and set it on fire causing significant damage. Palestinian firefighters put out the flames and PA security forces dispersed the rioters.

Israel Radio news also says that Hamas and other Palestinian groups have called for a “Day of Rage” today, including marches towards IDF checkpoints following Friday prayers. IDF forces are on high alert and men under the age of 40 will not be permitted access to the al-Aqsa Mosque today for fear of further unrest at the emotive site.
