Israel Aerospace Industries looks to expand in US

The FT reports that Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) is examining take-over options in the US. The state-owned company is one of Israel’s biggest employers and exporters. IAI’s senior management expect the acquisition process to begin in 2018 and run into the range of “hundreds of millions of dollars”.

The AP report that the National Basketball Association (NBA) are travelling to the Middle East. The NBA plans to host training camps in Israel for teenage players from across Europe. The move is part of the NBA’s “Basketball Without Borders” programme and will include clinic’s and workshops to teach teenagers about the social, political and economic landscape of Israel and the West Bank.

The Israeli media focuses on international news with Yedioth Ahronoth, Maariv and Haaretz featuring headlines about mounting tensions between the United States and North Korea.  Haaretz also discusses President Trump’s response to the car ramming attack at demonstrators in Charlottesville.

Maariv and Channel 2 report that Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu intends to ask the Knesset to vote on an amendment to the Basic Law that would allow the Prime Minister to declare war, or launch a military operation that is liable to lead to war, without the need for prior approval from the cabinet. The Times of Israel places this proposal within the context of  attempts to strengthen the Security Cabinet.

Kan Radio reports that the police have asked to extend the detention on  remand of the female perpetrator of the stabbing attack on Saturday near Damascus Gate. The 29-year-old mother of five from Sur Baher first attempted to stab an Ultra-Orthodox man but he was able to escape. She then attacked an Arab man who works for the light rail, who sustained light injuries to his shoulder. It is likely that she thought that he was Jewish because he was wearing a shirt with Hebrew writing on it.

Kan Radio also reports that an IDF soldier sustained light injuries last night during military activities near Jericho. He was hit by stones that were thrown at the troops, was treated at a hospital, and rejoined his battalion.

The Jerusalem Post reports that two relatives of the terrorist who murdered three family members in Halamish in July were arrested in the West Bank village of Kobar.

The Times of Israel reports that Hezbollah says it found an Israeli spy device in southern Lebanon which was subsequently remotely detonated by Israel.
