West Bank attacks continue, Beit Shemesh stabbing thwarted

[ssba]

The wave of terror attacks targeting Israelis continued yesterday as several incidents in the West Bank resulted in six Israelis being wounded, one critically.

Four soldiers were injured when a car driven by a Palestinian ploughed into them near Beit Ummar in the southern West Bank. The soldiers had exited their vehicle in order to quell rock throwing, but were then struck by the Palestinian driver. One of the soldiers was seriously injured while the driver was shot, wounded and taken to a Jerusalem hospital for treatment.

During the afternoon, a Palestinian stabbed a 19-year-old female soldier in Kikar Adam, just north of Jerusalem. The victim was critically wounded and given life-saving treatment on the spot. Another female soldier shot and killed the assailant.

Earlier in the day, a police officer was lightly wounded after a vehicle driven by a Palestinian ran over servicemen at a checkpoint near the West Bank settlement of Ofra. Meanwhile, near Ma’aleh Adumim police pulled over a Palestinian car being drive suspiciously, which on examination contained two explosive devices. Yesterday morning, a Palestinian teenage girl who was armed with a knife was shot and wounded when she ignored calls to stop advancing towards the West Bank settlement of Yizhar.

Meanwhile, yesterday evening in Jerusalem a man mistaken for a Palestinian terrorist was shot and killed after he boarded a bus near the busy entrance to the city and appeared to confront soldiers and attempt to seize a weapon. The assailant turned out to be a Jewish Israeli, whose actions remain unclear. Some reports suggest he was a security guard who asked soldiers for identification, arousing suspicion and eventual confrontation.

This morning, an Israeli man was moderately wounded when two Palestinians attempted to enter a synagogue in the central city of Beit Shemesh, with the apparent intention of stabbing worshippers. Initial reports suggest that the attackers were confronted by a civilian, before a policeman arrived and shot the terrorists. Channel Ten suggests that the assailants were killed.
