Father and son killed in Friday terror attack; killer apprehended

A father and son were killed in a terror attack on Friday afternoon in front of their family.

Rabbi Yaakov Litman and his 18-year-old son Netanel were shot in their car as it left the settlement of Otniel near Hebron. Rabbi Litman’s wife and four children in the car were slightly injured.

According to Israeli authorities in a report cited by Times of Israel, the terrorist from his own car, and then left the vehicle to kill Netanel Litman.

The family was on the way to celebrate the upcoming wedding of their eldest daughter, scheduled for tomorrow. They were laid to rest yesterday in a well-attended funeral service.

Following a significant manhunt, Hebron resident Shadi Ahmad Matua was arrested by Israeli security forces. He was found with the murder weapon and the vehicle he used to flee. According to Ynet, Matua was reported to Israeli authorities by his father and brother, who he told about the attack. Matua’s father was reportedly concerned that his house might be slated for demolition if he aided his son escape arrest.

Matua is reportedly linked to the Islamic Jihad terror group.

Israel has also filed an official complaint with the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) after reports that a Palestinian Red Crescent ambulance reached the scene of the terror attack but abandoned the victims. Surviving members of the Litman family and Israeli paramedics report that once the Red Crescent ambulance realised that the victims were Jewish they refused to treat them. Under ICRC rules, ambulances must treat the wounded with no regard to politics, nationality or religion.

The Palestinian Red Crescent denies the reports and the ambulance crew in question has not been suspended.
