A 60-year-old Israeli man was stabbed and moderately wounded yesterday evening in an attack by an 18-year-old Palestinian at the Lions’ Gate of Jerusalem’s Old City.

The victim was stabbed in the chest, but still managed to alert police. He was treated on the scene by paramedics, before being evacuated to a Jerusalem hospital. Israeli police found the knife used in the stabbing nearby and launched a hunt for the assailant, utilizing the network of surveillance cameras across the Old City. Three hours later, they arrested an 18-year-old Palestinian male from the West Bank hiding in an Old City alleyway, who, according to preliminary reports, admitted to carrying out the attack.

The Old City has been a focal point for deadly attacks by Palestinians during the wave of violence, which has killed at least 31 Israelis since October. However, the violence in general and that in Jerusalem has subsided during the past several weeks, despite a bus bomb in the city which wounded 21 people last month.

Furthermore, a 16-year-old Israeli girl who was seriously injured in the bus bombing came out of an induced coma. Eden Dadon had been on life support for nearly two weeks and suffered severe burns all over her body. However, after medication was cut back, she responded to stimuli and was able to communicate through hand signs, according to YNet.

Meanwhile, it is also reported that Israeli security forces overnight demolished the home of a terrorist involved in the killing of Israeli couple Eitam and Na’ama Henkin, who were shot dead while driving in the West Bank in October in front of their four children. The murder was considered one of the first incidents during the current wave of violence. Israeli authorities believe that the demolition of terrorists’ homes will act as a deterrent to future would-be attackers.
