Fayyad: promised aid not arriving

[ssba]

Palestinian Authority Prime Minister, Salam Fayyad said yesterday that financial aid pledged to the PA was not arriving, leading to a financial crisis. Speaking at a joint press conference with Japan’s representative to the Palestinian Authority, Fayyad called for an ‘acceleration’ in the receipt of aid. He noted that in the course of 2011, the PA had been receiving $52.5 million per month from Arab countries, which, according to Fayyad, was considerably less than had been pledged.

Although Israel collects tax revenue on behalf of the PA, the majority of the Authorities revenue is derived from international aid.
