Israel reportedly carried out air strikes against the Syrian T-4 airbase and weapons depot in Homs last night.

An unnamed military source was quoted by SANA saying that regime air defences: “Responded to an Israeli aggression on the T-4 airport in Homs eastern countryside, destroying two of the missiles that targeted the airport”. He said that a weapons depot was hit and buildings were damaged.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported that five people were killed in the airstrike on the T-4 base which is used to store Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) weapons and equipment. Israel has attacked the T-4 base on a number of occasions.

The T-4 base is thought to be controlled by the IRGC and used as an operations centre and a hub for weapons supplies. It reportedly stores Iranian Shahab 1, Fajr 5 and Fateh 110 Iranian missiles as well as military aircraft and anti-aircraft missiles. Yesterday a Fars Air jumbo jet returned to Iran after allegedly delivering weapons to the T-4 base.

On Sunday morning, the Israel Defence Forces attacked several targets connected to the Syrian army, including two artillery batteries, several observation and intelligence posts, and an SA-2 air defence unit, in response to missile fire toward the Golan Heights on Saturday.

Syrian state media reported that three Syrian soldiers were killed and seven were wounded in the strikes. SOHR reported that 10 were killed, seven of which were Iranian and Hezbollah operatives.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Sunday: “While we do not make light of Iran’s threats, neither are we deterred by them because anyone who tries to hurt us will be hurt far worse. We have proven this many times in the history of our state. We proved it just last night.”

Israel has acknowledged carrying out dozens of airstrikes in Syria against regime forces and Iranian targets over the past few months.
