Lindenstrauss report critical of Galant

[ssba]

A report by State Comptroller Micha Lindenstrauss into allegations that IDF Chief of Staff designate Yoav Galant made improper use of land adjoining his house found that Galant had indeed improperly used public land, that was intended to be accessible to the public. Lindenstrauss also determined that Galant withheld the truth in depositions he signed.

The report is casting a shadow over the appointment of Galant to the position of Chief of Staff, and is leading to a wider discussion in Israel over the question of values and norms of behaviour among senior officers. Other possible candidates for the position of Chief of Staff have begun to be named. Maj. Gen. Benny Gantz and Maj. Gen. Gadi Eizenkot are the two most prominent names in this regard. Attorney-General Yehuda Weinstein is now expected to rule on the issue of Galant’s candidacy in light of the Lindenstrauss report in the coming days.
