The main item of Israel-related coverage in the UK media today is the issuing of an Amnesty International report which accuses Israel and Hamas of war crimes during Operation Cast Lead in Gaza. In other news, the Guardian runs a piece on the likely effect US President Barak Obama's stance on settlements may have on Israel. Several papers and online news sources also continue to report on the ongoing instability in Iran. The Times runs a piece on the Iranian nuclear programme and Israel's dilemmas in responding to this threat. The Financial Times, meanwhile, has a piece contending that Israel is "struggling" to deal with the "changing picture" in Iran. The Sun and Sky News Online note a Syrian invitation to President Obama to visit the country.
In the Israeli media, all papers note the issuing of the Amnesty International report. Haaretz has the results of a poll looking into the level of public support for the government of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The paper also notes a PA claim that a Hamas cell was plotting to assassinate PA Chairman Mahmoud Abbas. The Jerusalem Post quotes Dov Weissglass, former senior aide to prime minister Ariel Sharon, on what he regards as Netanyahu's mistake not publicly endorsing the Road Map peace plan.
