In the UK and international media today, several papers note that a Katyusha rocket fired from Gaza yesterday afternoon made a direct hit on a shopping mall in Ashkelon, injuring 15 people. In other news, the Guardian, Independent and the Times note that US President George W. Bush and his wife Laura arrived in Israel yesterday to take part in the country's celebrations for sixty years of independence. The Financial Times carries a piece on Israel marking its sixtieth year of independence. The Guardian carries an article on a family living in the Jabaliya refugee camp in Gaza. The Daily Telegraph, meanwhile, reports that the Israeli government approved to build new homes in the Beitar Illit settlement in the West Bank. The Glasgow Herald notes that Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said yesterday that Israel was dying and its sixtieth anniversary celebrations were a cover up to prevent its annihilation. In other news, BBC Online notes that the Lebanese government has cancelled the restrictions it imposed on Hezbollah last week, and which caused the eruption of violence throughout the country.

Ynetnews notes that Israel has placed an official complaint with the United Nations Security Council following the latest rocket attack on Ashkelon. Haaretz notes that a senior defence official said yesterday that Israel is on a "collision course" with Hamas and that a large scale IDF operation into Gaza may occur following the visit of President Bush to the region. The Jerusalem Post notes that Arab MKs have decided to boycott President Bush's address to the Knesset scheduled for today.
