Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu continued his tour of South America with visits to Colombia and Mexico.

Netanyahu met with Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos in Bogota and they discussed deepening bilateral cooperation in the fields of agriculture, water technology, innovation and cyber defence.

Netanyahu said that under the Colombian President’s leadership there has been “a remarkable alliance between Israel and Colombia of faith and values, faith in the future”.

Netanyahu spoke of the scope of opportunities for increased Israeli-Colombian cooperation in agriculture where Israeli technology in “big data, artificial intelligence and connectivity in agriculture” can help Colombian agriculture.

Netanyahu and Santos agreed that a Colombian cyber delegation would visit Israel for advanced training in cyber security. The Israeli Prime Minister also spoke of the dangers of Islamist terrorism in South America and Israel’s role in preventing the spread of Iranian expansion in the region and globally.”

Netanyahu then travelled to Mexico where he met with President Enrique Pena Nieto.

Pena Nieto said that Israel and Mexico will update their free trade agreement, signed in 2000. The two leaders also signed new cooperation agreements on aviation, international development and space research.
