Defence officials plan to reopen Gaza border crossings on Friday

Israeli defence officials said last night that on Friday they plan to open the border crossings between the Gaza Strip and Israel on the condition that no more violations of the ceasefire take place. It was decided at the Defence Ministry late last night that the border will remain closed today except for humanitarian cases. The closure comes as a result of Qassam rocket attacks carried out by Islamic Jihad on Tuesday. Israel has temporary suspended any talks or progress regarding progress with the ceasefire deal due to the latest violation on Tuesday. The ceasefire was agreed upon and there were plans to continue talks and to find a solution to open the Rafah border crossing between Gaza and Egypt and to ease sanctions on goods and supplies entering Gaza. A defence official said it was "too early to tell" if these talks would continue and that the security situation would have to be monitored until it improved.
