President Peres calls for retaliation response to rocket attacks

President Shimon Peres said yesterday, regarding the rocket attacks on Israeli communities in the south, that Israel must respond without hesitation and without compromise if it is being fired upon. Peres, who was addressing a conference for National Service volunteers from the Kibbutz movements, added, "We cannot be satisfied only with talk. I trust the IDF, and even if complete solutions to the Qassam fire will take time, there is no doubt that the IDF will leave with the superior hand."

Peres also lashed out at the Hamas leaders in Gaza saying that those that will be hurt are the ones breaking the law themselves. "Haniyeh went underground because he knows well that he committed severe crimes against his people and against citizens, children, and women in Israel. He is not offering anything to Gaza residents except life in a tunnel of terror," Peres said. The president continued to comment that Israel must create a positive international public image for itself and receive the recognition that the rocket attacks on Sderot are crimes that are breaking international law. He also expressed his support for the residents of Sderot and called for the reinforcement and protection of the town from rocket fire.
