Security cabinet discusses substantial threat imposed by global jihad

Prime Minster Ehud Olmert convened a meeting of his security cabinet yesterday for the first time to discuss the threat posed by global jihad elements. The intelligence reports discussed at the meeting warned of a substantial threat to Israel, Israeli citizens and Jews around the world that exists from worldwide Jihad organisations. Representatives of the intelligence organisations during the meeting said that global jihad constitutes a threat to all Western countries, democratic regimes and moderate Arab countries. They also expressed concern that organisations would attempt to cooperate with local terror groups such as Hamas in Gaza and Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.
