Report: Netanyahu prepares gestures to Palestinians

[ssba]

According to a report in Haaretz today, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is currently preparing a series of gestures intended to build confidence between Israel and the Palestinian Authority, ahead of a Quartet statement that is expected to be critical of Israel. The ‘septet’ of senior ministers discussed these measures this week, according to Haaretz. They are set to include an easing in the conditions of the blockade on Gaza, removal of additional roadblocks in the West Bank, and enabling the Palestinian Authority to take possession of additional land for the construction of the new Palestinian city of Rawabi in the West Bank. Israel will also approve a number of infrastructural projects supported by Quartet Envoy Tony Blair in the West Bank. Representatives of the Quartet are scheduled to meet in Munich next week, and are expected to discuss the stalemate in Israeli-Palestinian talks.
