‘Tel Aviv likely to be targeted in future war’

[ssba]

Colonel Adam Zussman, commander of the Dan Region in the IDF Home Front Command, said in an interview with Haaretz newspaper today that it is likely that in any future war scenario, Tel Aviv would be hit by ‘a large number of missiles, missiles that are precise and lethal.’ He also noted, however, that Israel’s ability to deal with such an attack has also improved. Zussman stressed that unlike in the 2006 Lebanon War and Operation Cast Lead, Israel’s potential enemies now possess large numbers of long range weapons. A recent study by former Military Intelligence officer Jacques Neriah estimated that Hezbollah now possesses 50,000 rockets and missiles, including 40-50 Fateh 110 missiles and 10 SCUD-C ground-to-ground missiles. In the 2006 war, Hezbollah fired 4,000 short range missiles into northern Israel.
