Third of East Jerusalem Palestinians prefer Israeli citizenship

According to a poll conducted by Pechter Middle East Polls in cooperation with the Council of Foreign Relations, 35% of Arab residents of east Jerusalem would prefer to keep their Israeli citizenship in the event of the establishment of a Palestinian state. 30% said they would prefer to take Palestinian citizenship, while 30% had no response. When asked if they would move to a different neighbourhood if their neighbourhood became part of a Palestinian state, 40% said that they would move. 37% said that they would not move. When asked if they would move to the Palestinian state if their area became part of Israel, 54% said they would not move, while 27% said that they would. When asked to provide reasons for their decision, respondents preferring Israeli citizenship cited better job opportunities, freedom of movement, better health insurance and higher income in Israel. Those preferring Palestinian citizenship cited nationalism and patriotism as their primary motivators.
