Interview with Benny Begin on the Bedouin

The Israeli government’s proposals, known as the Prawer Plan, to resolve long-standing land issues with the Bedouin in Israel’s southern Negev region, and invest in the development of the region, have garnered debate and controversy within Israel and beyond. On 5 July, the European Parliament passed a resolution criticising Israel’s policy. In this interview, veteran Likud minister Benny Begin, who is responsible for implementation of the proposals, responded to critics of the Israeli policy during an interview with BICOM Senior Research Fellow Alan Johnson.  A fuller version of this interview, including Begin’s views on a range of domestic political and  diplomatic issues, will be published as part of BICOM’s new journal to be launched in October.
