Netanyahu approves steps to rein in settler violence

In the UK and international press today, Reuters notes that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu approved a series of steps to crackdown on the settler extremist groups that attacked IDF facilities and troops earlier this week. The Telegraph reports that Iran may be moving its uranium enrichment facilities to a safer location reflecting Tehran’s concerns of a possible military strike on its facilities. The Independent and Telegraph note that Hamas held celebrations in Gaza marking its 24th anniversary of the organisation and called for the liberation of all the land, including Israel. The International Herald Tribune carries an op-ed by Palestinian journalist Daoud Kuttab on Palestinian identity. BBC Online notes that the Egyptian elections are entering a second round as voters go to the polls to vote for a new parliament.

On the Israeli front pages, all papers report that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a series of steps to crackdown on settler extremist groups in the West Bank. The Jerusalem Post notes that Israel published the names of 550 Palestinian prisoners it plans to release in the second stage of the Gilad Shalit prisoner exchange deal.
