In the UK and international media today, several papers note that the Syrian government continues to crackdown on protesters following an agreement with the Arab League to halt violence.

Over the weekend, the Sunday Times noted that intelligence gathered by Israel ahead of an International Atomic energy Agency report revealed that Iran has tested nuclear triggering technology and ballistic missiles with the capabilities of carrying nuclear warheads. The Telegraph on Sunday noted that Israeli Defence Minister Ehud Barak refused to rule out a military strike against Iran’s nuclear sites. The Financial Times reported yesterday that the Mossad website and other Israeli government sites were down in an apparent cyber attack from the hacker group Anonymous. The paper also carried a piece on secular activists in Jerusalem fighting for their rights among a growing religious community. The Independent on Saturday noted that Britain, France and Colombia would abstain from the UN Security Council vote on forming a Palestinian state.

In the Israeli press today, all papers note that a general nationwide strike will take place across Israel today as the Trade Union and Finance Ministry failed to reach an agreement over the hiring of contractual workers. The front pages of all the papers also note that government, IDF, Mossad and Shin Bet websites crashed yesterday in a suspected cyber attack.

In other news, the Jerusalem Post notes that the Labour Court ruled this morning that a strike will  take place for 4 hours from 6am-10am. The paper also reports that foreign scientists from the former Soviet Union, North Korea and Pakistan are helping Iran to achieve nuclear capabilities. Haaretz notes that President Shimon Peres said yesterday that Iran is the greatest danger for Israel. In an exclusive interview with Israel Hayom, Peres said that all options are on the table and that a strike on Iran’s nuclear sites looks more likely than a diplomatic solution. Ynetnews notes that over the weekend two rockets were fired from the northern Gaza Strip injuring one person.
