[ssba]

In the UK and international media today, several papers continue to report on  government violence against protesters in Syria. The Guardian carries an editorial piece praising the organisers of the social protests that have taken place across Israel over the summer. The Times reports that Israeli security forces released information on a widespread security operation that thwarted a planned suicide terror attack and found the terror cell responsible for the killing of a British woman during a bomb attack at the central bus station in Jerusalem in March. The Financial Times newspaper notes that Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has escalated the dispute between Turkey and Israel by planning a visit to Gaza. BBC Online notes that US envoys met with PA President Mahmoud Abbas in the West Bank yesterday. The US envoys are opposed to the unilateral plan by the Palestinian Authority to seek statehood through a vote at the UN later this month.

In the Israeli press, all newspapers on the front pages report that the police started clearing up the social protest tent city in Tel Aviv and clashed with several protesters. Ynetnews notes that anonymous vandals broke into a military base in the West Bank, and damaged at least 11 jeeps. The “price tag” actions came in response to the demolition of structures in the Migron outpost earlier this week. Haaretz notes that legal experts warn that Israel could face trials at the International Criminal Court due to the settlements in the West Bank if a Palestinian state is recognised by a UN vote later this month. Haaretz notes that the UN Security Council said that Iran is violating its ban by developing its nuclear programme. All papers also note that Israeli security forces released information on a wide spread operation that arrested Hamas terror cells in the West Bank that were planning to carry out attacks on Israel. The Jerusalem Post notes that Noam Shalit, the father of captured IDF soldier Gilad, is in New York meeting with UN officials ahead of the General Assembly in order to gain support for the release of his son.
