In the latest news from the Libyan uprising, the UK and international papers note that rebel forces fought off Col. Muamar Gaddafi’s troops to keep control over the eastern oil port of Brega. The Telegraph notes that two US warships passed through the Suez Canal on their way towards waters off Libya in order to place military pressure against Gaddafi. Reuters reports that the Arab League yesterday called on Gaddafi’s government to halt attacks against Libyans and said it would consider declaring a no-fly zone over the country. The news wire also notes that the two Iranian naval ships that passed through the Suez Canal last month will return to the Red Sea via the canal today.  Meanwhile, BBC Online notes that opposition leaders in Iran say that more than 200 people were arrested on Tuesday while protesting in Tehran. In other news, the Financial Times reports that Israeli diplomat Ilan Baruch resigned from the foreign ministry because of his objection to the policies of the government.

In the Israeli press, Haaretz notes that US President Barack Obama met with Jewish leaders on Tuesday and said that Israel must create a context for peace using its military, diplomatic and cultural strengths. Several papers note that Arab League members yesterday paid their respects to the protesters killed across the region in the recent uprisings. Haaretz notes that Israel eased the restrictions of exports from Gaza. Since November 2010, Israel has permitted 184 truckloads of perishable goods to be exported via Israel to Europe. The Jerusalem Post notes that most of the operations from the Karni border crossing between Gaza and Israel have moved to the Kerem Shalom crossing which is open all week. The paper also notes that US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told the US Congress earlier this week that Iran is trying to influence the outcomes of the uprisings taking place across the Arab world. All paper also cover right-wing demonstrations in Israel.
