Israel has responded to rocket fire, weighing its reaction as quiet comes to an end

As rockets from Gaza bring to an end three days of quiet, Israel is considering its response.

Minutes after the rocket fire, politicians on the right wing called for a strong response. Economy Minister Naftali Bennett called for Israel’s delegation to leave the negotiations in Cairo, stressing that Hamas cannot “shoot at civilians as a means of pressure.”

Justice Minister Tzipi Livni said on Facebook that “we will not have an ISIS Middle East”. Housing Minister Uri Ariel called for the toppling of the Hamas regime.

Israel confirmed it had responded to the rocket fire. IDF spokesperson Lt. Col. Peter Lerner tweeted that, “Following renewed terrorist aggression against #Israel, #IDF carried out airstrikes against terrorist infrastructure in #Gaza”.

Some Gaza residents who returned home fled in expectation of Israeli strikes as soon as the first rockets were fired at Israel.

Meanwhile, in southern Israel, residents have expressed anger at the Home Front Command, which lifted all alerts in the last two days and encouraged residents to return to their normal lives. The IDF has reissued warnings to all residents of the south to stay near bomb shelters and limit their time outdoors, and has asked residents of Central Israel to ensure that their bomb shelters are open in case of a renewal of longer-range rockets.
