Five Palestinians were killed by IDF forces in separate incidents in Gaza and the West Bank on Tuesday and Wednesday.

In the northern Gaza Strip hundreds of rioters rolled burning tyres and threw firebombs and rocks at IDF soldiers along the border on Wednesday. An IDF statement said that troops responded with riot dispersal means and used live fire in accordance with standard operating procedures. The Hamas-run health ministry in Gaza said that Ahmad Mahmoud Muhsen Omar, 20, and Muhammad Ahmad Abu Naji, 34 were killed.

Riots also took place in the southern Gaza Strip with IDF troops reporting that 20 suspects crossed the security fence in separate incidents on Wednesday. Six were apprehended and transferred to security forces for further questioning. A 15-year-old Palestinian was shot dead by IDF forces during the rioting. An Israeli military spokeswoman said troops on the border fence in the southern Gaza Strip were targeted with stones and firebombs and they responded with riot dispersal means and live fire according to “open-fire regulations”. Hamas said 26 people were wounded.

In a fourth incident, Mohammad Zaghloul Arimawi died hours after being arrested in the village of Bayt Rima, near Ramallah. His family said that soldiers injured him after he was arrested. An IDF spokesperson said that he received medical treatment from soldiers and was taken to the hospital, escorted by an IDF medical team, who performed CPR, but he was pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. According to an initial investigation, he did not resist arrest and there was no violence involved as he was apprehended. The IDF has launched an investigation into the incident.

A Palestinian man was shot dead by Israeli Police on Tuesday evening in Jerusalem after attempting to stab a Jewish man with a screwdriver. The shooting occurred close to the entrance to Jerusalem’s Old City, shortly after the fast of Yom Kippur began. The Palestinian was a 26-year-old from Qalandiya and had entered Israel illegally, according to Haaretz. The police said: “As part of the extensive preparations for the eve of Yom Kippur, policemen stationed on the route used by worshippers spotted the attacker running toward a Jewish man, attempted to harm him and bypassers tripped him up. Afterward, he continued to run at police officers while brandishing a sharp object in his hand. The police acted immediately and with determination and neutralised the attacker.”
