Merkel invites Netanyahu to discuss peace plan

[ssba]

German Chancellor Angela Merkel invited Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu for a visit and meeting in Berlin during the first week of April. The meeting is seen as a reconciliation effort by the German chancellor following a tense period and strong exchanges between the two leaders. The last exchange between the two leaders took place two and a half weeks ago, when Netanyahu phoned Merkel to disapprove of Germany’s support of a UN Security Council resolution that denounced West Bank settlement construction. Merkel responded by saying Netanyahu had done little to advance the peace process.

During the upcoming visit, Merkel is expected to ask Netanyahu about his peace plan, which the Israeli prime minister is expected to announce within the next three weeks.
