Ron Prosor to serve as Israel’s ambassador at UN

[ssba]

Current Israeli ambassador to the United Kingdom Ron Prosor has been appointed to serve as Jerusalem’s next ambassador to the United Nations. Prosor is a former director-general of Israel’s foreign ministry, and has held senior diplomatic posts in Washington and Bonn. His appointment comes ahead of an expected stormy period for Israel at the UN, in the build up to a possible unilateral declaration of statehood by the Palestinians later this year, for which the Palestinian leadership is currently seeking to rally support. Prosor will replace Meron Reuben, who has been serving as acting ambassador since the departure of Gabriela Shalev, who left the post last year. In addition to Prosor’s appointment, a number of other senior diplomatic appointments were announced yesterday. These included the appointment of new Israeli ambassadors to India, Finland and Hungary.
