Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s meeting with President Barack Obama is covered by the Financial Times, Independent, Independent i, Guardian and BBC News online

The FT reports that PM Netanyahu re-committed to a two-state solution in his meeting with President Obama. The Independent and Independent I quote Netanyahu saying “We have not given up our hope for peace” and claims that the two leaders discussed a £20bn military aid package to Israel. The BBC noted Obama does not believe a peace deal will be reached before his presidential term expires in January 2017.

Several UK papers also report on Mayor of London Boris Johnson’s visit to Israel. The Telegraph reports on Mr Johnson’s comments on leadership during his visit. The Independent i notes Mr Johnson’s statements opposing a boycott of Israel, as do the Daily Express and Metro which additionally report that he called a boycott “completely crazy”. The Evening Standard quotes Mr Johnson praising Israel as the only democracy in the region. City AM also reports on the trip.

The FT, Independent, Daily Mail, Mirror and the Times report on the terror attacks that Israel suffered on Sunday. The Mail, Times and Mirror in particular cite the shocking video from Sunday in which a Palestinian woman attempted to stab a security guard at the entrance to Beitar Ilit. The Mail reports an interview with the guard.

The Telegraph, FT, Guardian and Standard report that two American trainers and a South African national were among four killed in Jordan on a security base, when a Jordanian trainer started shooting his colleagues. The man was killed.

The Times and the Guardian today carry biographies of Yitzchak Navon, Israel’s fifth president, who died on Saturday.

The FT reports that Robert Hannigan, director of GCHQ, will today tell business leaders that the UK is failing in cyber-security. The piece notes “UK cyber security officials look to Israel in particular — which has a well-developed private cyber security sector nurtured by the government and its surveillance agencies — as an example to emulate”.

A piece in the Independent suggests that evidence terrorism was behind the downing of a Russian flight came from a friendly third-party country rather than from GCHQ, with the piece suggesting that this is likely to be Israel.

The Times notes that Russia has signed an agreement to ship Iran the advanced S-300 aerial defence system, following the Iran nuclear deal.

A letter in the Independent, which receives coverage in the news pages, protests Israel’s failure to give Gaza trauma experts visas to attend a conference in London.

The Obama-Netanyahu meeting dominates Israeli news, being a front page story on all newspapers including Yediot Ahronot, Haaretz, Maariv and Israel Hayom. Israel Hayom leads with the claim that the meeting between the two men was “one of the best” they have had. Haaretz emphasises Mr Netanyahu’s reported remarks that Israel must be a part of any Syria peace solution while a comment piece in Maariv described the meeting as “a serious meeting, in-depth and necessary”.

In other news, the Jerusalem Post reports that a Palestinian man has been charged with three counts of murder for a knifing and shooting attack on a bus in Jerusalem last month.

Haaretz and Israel Hayom report that a suspected Iranian hacking group has been targeting Israeli nuclear scientists among other targets including Saudi Arabians.

Israel Hayom and Yediot Ahronot cover the serious flooding yesterday in the coastal town of Ashkelon, which led to sinkholes appearing in some roads and cars being swept away.

Haaretz reports that the police are investigating protesters against the natural gas deal. Protest leaders have been interviewed by the police under caution for allegedly breaching the rules about the size and location of their protests.
