Demonstration against Netanyahu results in arrests

The i reports that Barcelona’s Chief Rabbi has urged Jews to migrate to Israel because “Europe is lost” to Radical Islam, in the wake of last week’s terror attacks in the city.

The Daily Mail includes the results of a Yougov poll by the Campaign Against antisemitism which finds 83 per cent of British Jews consider the Labour Party to be too tolerant of antisemitism.

The Independent reports comments by Israeli Communications Minister Ayoub Kara, who says that Israel “must not accept anyone harming“ US President Donald Trump and that “due to the terrific relations with the US, we need to put the declarations about the Nazis in the proper proportion”.

Yediot Ahronot, Maariv and Haaretz report on the arrest and subsequent release of Attorney Eldad Yaniv and former Prime Minister’s Residence custodian Meni Naftali for calling for people to attend a demonstration that the police had banned for not having a permit. Saturday night’s demonstration was the 40th to take place near the home of Attorney-General Mandelblit in Goren Square in the Kfar Ganim neighbourhood to protest the alleged delays in handling the investigations of Prime Minister Netanyahu and his wife.

Kan Radio reports that the High Court of Justice heard a petition from the Movement for Quality Government, and has given the Israel Police until 4pm today to explain why the police banned the demonstration on Saturday night.

Maariv’s front page focuses on “Europe in Terrorism’s Crosshairs” and also mentions the death of American comedian Jerry Lewis.

Haaretz reports that Egypt is mediating in Syria and attempting to block Iran with the blessing of Russia and Saudi Arabia.

Kan Radio reports that the Petah Tikva Magistrates Court has extended the remand of a young Palestinian man who was arrested in Netanya by four days. Police found that he did not have a permit to be in Israel and discovered a knife in his possession. The suspect, 21 years of age, admitted under questioning that he had planned to carry out a stabbing attack.

Kan Radio also reports that the family of Abera Mengistu, one of three Israelis who is being held in Gaza, will celebrate his 31st birthday on Wednesday. Mengistu has been held captive by Hamas in the Gaza Strip for nearly three years.

Yediot Ahronoth’s front page reports that over a million Israelis are taking Ritalin, a significant rise over the past year.
