Sky News, BBC Radio 4’s Today Programme, BBC News Online, the Guardian, FT, Telegraph and Independent all report that US President Donald Trump is expected to announce today that he will move the US Embassy to Jerusalem and recognise the city as the capital of Israel. Trump is expected to deliver a speech at 5pm UK time from the White House. The President will base his decision on ancient history and the current political realities, that the Israeli legislature and many government offices are already in Jerusalem. The Times reports that Palestinian factions will stage three “days of rage” in protest at President Trump’s decision.

The Independent reports that the Palestinian chief representative to the UK, Manuel Hassassian, has warned that Trump is “declaring war” by moving the Embassy and that this will be the “kiss of death” to the peace process.

The Independent reports statements by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan who warned Trump in a speech to the Turkish parliament that recognising Jerusalem as the capital of Israel was a “red line” for Muslims and that Turkey could “go as far as us cutting diplomatic ties with Israel” in response.

BBC News Online reports that most of those detained in the anti-corruption drive in Saudi Arabia have agreed settlements with the authorities in exchange for a pardon.

The Times reports that the son of Yemen’s murdered former President Ali Abdullah Saleh has vowed vengeance on the Houthi rebels and their Iranian backers. Saleh was killed by his former Houthi allies in fighting on Monday. Richard Spencer writes in the Times that the death of Saleh, who was seeking peace with the Saudi-led coalition, leaves Arab leaders few credible options for the resolution of the conflict in Yemen.

BBC News Online has reported that Lebanon’s Prime Minister Saad Hariri has withdrawn his resignation a month after making the shock announcement in a televised address from Saudi Arabia.

The Times reports that thousands of ISIS fighters were allowed to flee besieged towns in Syria under deals approved by US commanders as the Western-backed Kurdish forces moved in on them.

The FT reports that the EU’s counter-terrorism chief, Gilles de Kerchove, has said that military forces fighting ISIS should hand over secret “battlefield information” that would help European border agencies identify and intercept foreign ISIS fighters who pose as refugees to flee home.

The Israeli media is dominated by the anticipated announcement by US President Donald Trump recognising Jerusalem as Israel’s capital. Yediot Ahronot quotes Transport Minister Yisrael Katz, saying: “There is no decision more historically just and apt than Trump’s anticipated decision to now recognize Jerusalem, which has been the capital of the Jewish people for the past 3,000 years, as the capital of the State of Israel. The declaration is more important than moving the Embassy, which will certainly come in its wake. No one will deter us. A security escalation will be a very big mistake on the Palestinian Authority’s part. I’d advise the Palestinian leadership not to create security tensions and to lead things in that direction.”

Maariv quotes supportive comments from the government as well as Joint List Chairman Ayman Odeh, who says: “Trump is a pyromaniac who is capable of setting the entire region on fire with his insanity. If there is just one thing that the last few days have proven, it is that the United States must not remain the party that sponsors the talks between Israel and the Palestinians. If the Israeli government wants the world to recognise West Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, all it needs to do is to recognize East Jerusalem as the capital of Palestine.”

Kan Radio News reports a senior Palestinian source saying that Abu Mazen told Trump that the “Palestinians viewed this as the end of the peace process, and the end of the American role in the peace process. I don’t think that Trump will back down; in doing so he has cancelled the deal of the century and put an end to it.”

All the Israeli papers discuss the security ramifications of the announcement. Yediot Ahronot notes the state of alert is focused primarily on Jerusalem, particularly ahead of the midday prayer services on Friday.  They quote a police source,  who said: “We need to be more attentive and pay closer attention in terms of intelligence and on the ground. There might also be lone assailants who will try to stage attacks. In any event, we are prepared for any development.”   Israeli officials have not ruled out the possibility that rioting might erupt in the West Bank as well.  Another official is quoted as saying: “When they play on religious sentiments that absolutely can lead to rioting, and we’re preparing for every scenario, but when is there going to be a better opportunity? The moderate Arab countries are worried about Iran and we can see that the Arab leadership isn’t really up in arms over the decision and that is why Trump is determined to do this.”

In the commentary, Yediot Ahronot notes that “al-Aqsa is the code word that unites the ranks in Palestinian society. From their vantage point, the presence of the American Embassy in Jerusalem isn’t a political decision; it is a Crusader takeover of al-Aqsa. Logic doesn’t play a role in this case”. Whilst in Maariv there is speculation that a statement by Trump recognising Jerusalem as the capital of Israel might be part of a long-game plan, in which he is “giving” Jerusalem to Israel with the goal of demanding payment in return in the form of greater Israeli flexibility in a broader peace plan.

Haaretz reports the US has issued a travel advisory regarding East Jerusalem, and American diplomats were instructed not to go to the Old City or the West Bank. US embassies in the Arab world were instructed to prepare for demonstrations.

Israel Hayom cover the arrest of two suspects in London over a planned attack on ten Downing street and Prime Minister Theresa May.

Maariv reveals that Likud MK David Bitan will again today be questioned by the police Fraud Investigations Unit.   Kan Radio News this morning add that they have documents that show that Bitan and Rishon Lezion Mayor Dov Tzur took steps to appoint their associates to key posts in the municipality’s Economic Development Company. The police suspect that the company rigged tenders in favour of contractors who were interested parties, and the latter transferred the funds to the Jaroushi crime family.

Yediot Ahronot welcomes the first all-female graduating class of tank combat soldiers, they will be deployed on the Israel-Egypt border.

All the papers report a violent fight between disabled activists representing different organisations, during a hearing of the Knesset’s Labour, Welfare and Health Committee discussing the agreement to increase welfare benefit.
