The Foreign Ministry has approved the appointment of Mark Regev as Israel’s next Ambassador to the Court of St. James’s, succeeding Ambassador Daniel Taub who recently finished a four-year term in London.

Melbourne-born Regev immigrated to Israel in 1982 and is a career Israeli diplomat. He joined the Foreign Service in 1990, and subsequently served in various positions in Hong Kong, Beijing and Washington DC. After three years as the foreign ministry’s spokesperson, he was appointed to the role of the prime minister’s foreign press media adviser in 2007 under the Kadima government, a position that he has held until today. Regev holds a BA in Political Science and History from the University of Melbourne, a MA in Political Science from The Hebrew University of Jerusalem and a MSc in Management from Boston University.

The confirmation of Regev’s appointment comes one week before Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is scheduled to travel to London for meetings with his British counterpart, David Cameron. The two leaders are scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting at 10 Downing Street before the Jewish New Year, which takes place next weekend.
