Iran plans to dispatch submarine and warship to Red Sea

[ssba]

Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Habibollah Sayari said that his country plans to send a submarine and warship to the Gulf of Aden and Red Sea. Sayari explained that the deployment of the 15th fleet is for reasons of patrolling the high seas and displaying Iran’s naval capabilities. Sayari also added that it is a symbolic move to convey a message of peace and friendship to other countries. In February, following the overthrow of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak, Iran sent two warships through the Suez Canal en route to Syria.

Iran’s move comes a day after the Israeli Navy modified its operational doctrine of the Command Centre in Eilat, which is responsible for protecting southern Israel from sea threats. The Israel Navy docked two large corvettes, which will most likely be used for anti-terror and anti-smuggling operations in the Red Sea.
