Suspects arrested in Palmer killings, mosque arson

[ssba]

Two Palestinians from Halhoul, near Hebron in the West Bank were arrested earlier this week on suspicion of responsibility for the murder of Israeli Asher Palmer and his infant son Yonatan near Kiryat Arba on the West Bank earlier this month. According to media reports, the suspects have confessed to hurling a stone at Palmer’s car, causing him to lose control of it. The car overturned, killing Palmer and his one-year-old son. Further details on the arrests are unavailable.

The Israeli authorities have also arrested a man suspected of involvement in an arson attack on a mosque in the Upper Galilee earlier this week. The mosque, in the Israeli Bedouin village of Tuba Zangariya, was attacked in the early hours of Monday morning. The authorities suspect that the attack may have been carried out by extreme right wing Israeli Jews, as part of the practice of ‘price tag’ operations – a term used to refer to attacks on Palestinians, in response to terror attacks, or state actions against settlement outposts. The suspect has denied any connection to the incidents, according to Israeli media reports. A gag order has been placed on all further details.
