The turmoil in Egypt continues to feature prominently with general confusion over who provoked the violence, which culminated in the shooting of more than 50 Islamist supporters of the deposed president yesterday.  Fearful of continued violence, the BBC and Guardian suggests interim president Adly Mansour will set a timetable for amending the constitution and prepare for new election in early 2014.  The Financial Times in an editorial warns against further crackdowns against the Muslim Brotherhood, which it argues will only  force the Brotherhood underground and ‘encourage some members to conclude that only violence can deliver political goals’.  The editorial also suggests Egypt’s allies should ‘use all their leverage’ to encourage the parties to negotiate,  adding the US is unlikely to cut off its aid as it serves to protect US strategic interests and Israel’s security.  The Independent covers international responses ranging from the US’s ‘concern’ with the UK urging ‘calm and restraint’.  The Times reports on the continued fighting in Syria as government forces appear close to retaking control of the last rebel held area of Homs.  According to videos, they may face rebels wearing explosive belts. In Jerusalem, the Independent follows the monthly effort of the ‘Women of the Wall’ who were met by a protest of thousands of ultra orthodox children who prevented them from praying at the Wall yesterday.  BBC online covers the rescue of a 67 year old man who fell from a cliff in Wales.  He was helped by two members of the IDF Search and Rescue Unit.  BBC online  profiles a new Lebanese film – The Attack which has caused controversy in Lebanon as it was partly filmed in Israel and includes Israeli actors.

The Israeli media is similarly focused on events on Egypt.  Maariv leads with ‘Muslim Brotherhood Threatens Armed Intifada in Egypt’,  Haaretz with’ Israel to US: Don’t cut aid to Egyptian Army’ and Israel Hayom go with ‘Egypt on the Brink of Civil War’.  Maariv  also report that a number of Hamas fighters have joined in battles against the Egyptian army in Sinai. Yediot Ahronot and Haaretz reveal another prisoner was held in Ayalon prison under similar conditions to Ben Zygier – prisoner X, but do not give further details. Yediot Ahronot also follows  concerns that Syria will receive delivery of S-300 from Russia in the next few weeks and will be quickly operational. Maariv speculates with concern over the stability of the Kingdom of Jordan amidst the uncertainly in the region.  Israel Hayom covers an effort to establish a new Christian party among Israeli Christian Arabs, that supports Israel’s right to be the land for the Jewish people and want to serve in the IDF.  Yediot Ahronot continues to suggest Israel is in negotiations with unnamed African countries who have agreed to take on individuals who have entered into Israel illegally via the Sinai.  In return Israel would provide agricultural, economic and military aid. The Times of Israel covers outgoing Iranian President Ahmadinejad’s farewell ceremony, where he stated publicising Holocaust denial was a major achievement of his presidency.  The Jerusalem Post reports on the judgement of a court in Lod that sentenced a man from Taiba in 30 months imprisonment for briefly joining the Syrian rebels. Whilst in training he was asked to become a suicide bomber to which he declined.  Army Radio interviewed Cliff Richard who is excited to be performing in Israel later this week and ignored those who pressured him to boycott Israel.
