The Telegraph online reports that Israel’s Defence Minister Moshe Ya’alon has called for global intelligence agencies to share information and cooperate over combatting ISIS, which has shocked world leaders by the brutality with which it has seized large swathes of territory in Iraq and Syria. Meanwhile, the Guardian reports that US Secretary of State John Kerry is in Saudi Arabia today to recruit Arab states to participate in an anti-ISIS coalition, with the Times reporting that the Saudis could take a leading role in such an effort.

The online editions of the Guardian and Telegraph both report that an explosion has killed a top leader of the Islamist Front in Syria, a jihadist group with connections to Al-Qaeda, which has fought determinedly against ISIS.

The Independent i reports that Israel has tested an upgraded version of the Arrow 2 anti-missile system, part of the country’s multi-layered capability to tackle missiles of varying ranges and capabilities.

The Independent i also says that Egypt will host an international donor conference in 12 October, in order to raise funds for the reconstruction of Gaza following Operation Protective Edge. The Times, Telegraph, Guardian, Sun and Daily Express all report a speech made yesterday by Chief Whip Michael Gove MP to the Holocaust Education Trust. Gove warned of rising anti-Semitism in the UK and highlighted the role of pro-Palestinian protestors during the Gaza conflict who invoked Nazi imagery and comparisons, accusing them of a dangerous “trivialisation and perversion” of the Holocaust.

The Guardian online reports that a US professor is protesting after the University of Illinois withdrew an appointment after he criticised Israel’s actions in Gaza via Twitter.

The Independent online covers a new report released by Human Rights Watch, which accuses Israel of “unlawfully coercing” Eritreans and Sudanese into leaving the country. Around 50,000 Africans have illegally entered Israel during the last several years and with many now in detention centres, Israeli authorities say that around 8,000 have decided to leave of their own accord since January 2013.

In the Israeli media, Maariv leads with the suggestion that Finance Minister Yair Lapid could remove his Yesh Atid party from the coalition if his plan to cut VAT entirely for many first time home-buyers is not approved by the Knesset. United Torah Judaism MK Moshe Gafni is quoted saying that Prime Minister Netanyahu has told ultra-Orthodox leaders that he is opposed to the plan. In a similar item, Israel Radio news says that a meeting on the 2015 budget between Netanyahu and Lapid has been postponed by several days due to disagreement on central issues such as an increase in the defence budget and the national deficit.

Israel Hayom leads with speculation that the United States will soon launch air strikes in Syria against ISIS positions, having already taken aerial action in Iraq. Meanwhile, Haaretz prominently reports that US Secretary of State John Kerry is travelling to Jordan to put together a coalition of regional interests to tackle ISIS.

Maariv also reports that an upgraded version of the Arrow 2 anti-missile system, which was tested this week, did not intercept its target. However, defence officials still insist that the test was a success.

Yediot Ahronot highlights a report which says that kindergartens in Israel are the most crowded in the Western world.
