Many papers including the Daily Mail, Independent, Guardian, Telegraph and Times report on the release of a new video of British hostage John Cantlie, imprisoned by ISIS. The propaganda video is presented as a journalistic report about the gains and successes of ISIS and also features an ISIS member praising the Charlie Hebdo and Jewish supermarket attacks.

The Independent and Guardian cover Russian President Vladimir Putin’s visit to Egypt to meet with President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, which began yesterday evening. Both papers speculate about a closer Russia-Egypt alliance and its impact on wider international politics.

The Guardian and Telegraph both report that a Church of England vicar, Rev Dr Stephen Sizer, has been “banned” from using social media by the Bishop of Guildford after posting an article claiming that Israel carried out the attacks of 11 September 2001. According to the Telegraph, Rev Sizer had also participated in conference in Iran which the Board of Deputies of British Jews called an “anti-Semitic hate fest”.

Reuters covers a pilgrimage of Shiite Muslims to a shrine in the grounds of Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon. One Shiite sect believes that the shrine once contained the head of Hussein, the grandson of Mohammed.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s planned speech to Congress continues to grab front pages in Israel after foreign media reports yesterday that Mr Netanyahu might “reconfigure” to give a private speech to Congress or speak only at AIPAC Congress. Haaretz, Israel Hayom and the Jerusalem Post run Mr Netanyahu’s strong denial of this rumour and continuing commitment to deliver the speech. Haaretz also reports critical remarks about the speech’s timing by US President Barack Obama.

Maariv, Yediot Ahronot, Haaretz and Israel Hayom, report that the IDF recently destroyed a tunnel from Gaza. The tunnel, which ran near Kibbutz Nahal Oz, had reportedly been partially disabled in the summer conflict but was only fully decommissioned a few days ago.

Haaretz, Yediot Ahronot, the Jerusalem Post and Israel Hayom report on a plan by the Palestinian Authority to ban the sale goods from six Israeli food producers. The Post quotes Fatah Central Committee member Mahmoud al-Aloul as saying that this boycott is a response to Israel’s decision to withhold tax revenue payments to the PA.

Haaretz reports on Prime Minister Netanyahu’s personal attack on Yediot Ahronot publisher Noni Mozes, calling such an intervention “unprecedented”. Mr Netanyahu reportedly claimed that Mozes was trying to overthrow the government for “business interests” in an attempt to sell more newspapers. The Netanyahu supporting daily Israel Hayom carries four pages of attacks on Mozes accusing him of running a smear campaign against Netanyahu. The report, including a large caricature of the publisher as a puppet-master, is unusually personal.

Israel Hayom also reports Avigdor Liberman’s stinging attacks on current Defence Minister Moshe Yaalon as part of Mr Liberman’s campaign to be Israel’s next Defence Minister. “He was an excellent soldier but as a Defence Minister people don’t take him seriously – not our Arab neighbours, not Hamas, not Hezbollah, and not even the Americans”, Mr Liberman reportedly said.
