The Telegraph and the online edition of the Independent both cover a Wall St Journal report, which claims that US intelligence agencies spied on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s conversations regarding the Iran nuclear deal. The report suggests that Netanyahu’s calls to US lawmakers and officials were wiretapped as he looked to influence their votes in the US Congress over the agreement. It has previously been alleged that Israel spied on the US talks with Iran when they took place earlier this year.

The Guardian online covers reports that the United States is considering new sanctions on Iran in response to two recent Iranian ballistic missile tests, conducted in contravention of United Nations’ Security Council resolutions. If applied, it would be the first time that Washington has imposed sanctions on Iran since Tehran agreed a long-term nuclear deal in July with the P5+1 powers (US, UK, France, Russia, China and Germany).

The Independent online reports that UK air strikes in Syria recently killed ISIS operatives for the first time. Apparently, an RAF Reaper drone last week destroyed an ISIS checkpoint near the stronghold of Raqqa. Meanwhile, the Guardian online covers a report by the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which says that during the last three months, Russian air strikes in Syria have killed at least 2,300 people, one third of whom have been civilians.

In the Israeli media, Maariv and Israel Hayom both prominently report that the IDF is preparing for the possibility of an ISIS-led attack across the Syrian border. Russian air strikes are thought to be pushing ISIS forces nearer to the Israel border, while an ISIS-affiliate is already operating in the border region and is thought to have sophisticated weaponry at its disposal. Last weekend, ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi threatened that the terror group will attack Israel.

Meanwhile, Yediot Ahronot, Haaretz and Israel Hayom all report that Sara Netanyahu, the wife of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will today be questioned under caution by the Fraud Investigation Unit over activities at the family’s official residence in Jerusalem. She will apparently be questioned over allegations that she misused public funds for personal benefit at the residence. Attorney General Yehuda Weinstein authorised the questioning, but the Netanyahu family have denied any wrongdoing.

Maariv and Israel Radio news both focus on responses in Israel to reports that US intelligence agencies eavesdropped on Prime Minister Netanyahu’s conversations with US lawmakers over the Iran nuclear deal. Intelligence Minister Yisrael Katz is quoted saying “If the report turns out to be true, Israel must lodge a formal protest. Israel doesn’t spy on the US, and we expect our great friend the US to treat us in the same manner.” However, Energy Minister Yuval Steinitz reacted differently, saying “I didn’t fall off my chair. We know that the rule in the international community is that everyone spies on everyone.”

Israel Radio news says that two Arab children, aged 12 and 13 were arrested in Jerusalem last night carrying knives, suspected of planning to carry out a stabbing. They were picked up acting suspiciously in a Jewish neighbourhood of the city.
