In the UK media the Times, Daily Telegraph and Daily Mail cover Prime Minister David Cameron’s statement that Iran and Hezbollah were supporting the Syrian regime militarily. The Daily Telegraph and BBC online report comments by the Russian Foreign Minister warning against attacking Iran. The Financial Times reports on Iranian attempts to renew negotiations over its nuclear programme that have been dismissed by western diplomats. The Daily Telegraph covers Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Danny Ayalon in London, including his criticism of Nick Clegg’s remarks about settlements, which Ayalon described as ‘’inflammatory’’. Meanwhile, Reuters claims radioactive material has been stolen from a nuclear power station on Egypt’s Mediterranean coast that was the site of violent protests last week.

In the Israeli media; Haaretz, Yediot Ahronot and YIsrael Hayom all lead on what they anticipate will be a tough political contest between Tzipi Livini and Shaul Mofaz for the leadership of the Kadima party, set for 27 March. The first official visit to Israel of US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Martin Dempsey also receiving broad coverage. Ma’ariv leads with an interview with the former director of the IDF Intelligence Branch, Amos Yadlin. Ynet, Jerusalem Post & Haaretz online all cover the evacuation of two settlement outposts, Yisa Bracha and Oz Zion. Yisrael Hayom and Ynet report that IDF forces exposed a terror cell placing explosives along the northern Gaza border yesterday afternoon. There is also broad coverage of the campaign against racism led by members of the Ethiopian community. The Jerusalem Post has a report about Hezbollah’s expanding rocket arsenal, whilst Haaretz reports on Prime Minister Netanyahu’s forthcoming visit to Cyprus.
