Israeli woman injured in London knife attack

[ssba]

The Guardian, Times, Telegraph, Sun, Metro and BBC online report on Israel’s arrest of a senior official at international aid charity World Vision on suspicion of funneling millions of pounds to Hamas. The Times notes that Mohammed el-Halabi, head of World Vision’s Gaza office, allegedly transferred more than £5m  a year to Hamas terrorists and even to Sinai-based armed militant groups. According to the Guardian and Telegraph, money for a project funded by British donors was diverted to build a Hamas ‘military’ base and dig attack tunnels.

Several British papers note that an Israeli woman was among three injured in a knife attack in central London yesterday, with the Mail, Express, Sun Mirror, Star and Metro leading on the story. The woman, Yuval Labkovski, was stabbed by the attacker after mistaking him for a victim and attempting to aid him.

The Times covers claims by an Israeli cybersecurity company that it has infiltrated an ISIS online group on the secure ‘Telegram’ platform. The closed group, meant for ISIS adherents, discussed possible terror targets including US military bases and possible church attacks like the one that took place in Normandy.

The Times, Guardian, Telegraph, Mail, Express, Sun, Metro and City AM report that Shami Chakrabarti has been given a peerage by Labour Leader Jeremy Corbyn. Ms Chakrabarti recently chaired Labour’s independent inquiry. The Times, Mail, Express and Telegraph note that the appointment undermines the independence of her inquiry.

A “Postcard from…” feature in the Metro reports on a Palestinian wedding in Gaza.

Israeli news outlets also cover the arrest of World Vision’s Mohammed el-Halabi, with stories in Maariv, Haaretz, Yediot Ahronot, Israel Hayom and the Jerusalem Post.

Haaretz, quoting Egyptian military sources, reports that the head of ISIS in Sinai, Abu Doaa al-Ansari, was killed in an Egyptian strike in el-Arish. According to the report, 45 fighters were also killed, which would be a significant proportion of the so-called Sinai Province of ISIS.

Yediot Ahronot, Maariv, Israel Hayom, Haaretz and the Jerusalem Post all report that former President Moshe Katzav has been denied parole for the second time. Mr Katzav is serving a jail sentence for rape.

Haaretz reports on a new hunger strike among Palestinians imprisoned in Israel for terrorism and other security offenses. The hunger strike was in response to a decision by the Israel Prison Service to separate groups of Hamas prisoners by transferring them to different cells to prevent a planned prison uprising.
