Tenders issued for new homes over the Green Line

[ssba]

The Housing Ministry published tenders yesterday for 1,028 homes to be built in the West Bank and in East Jerusalem, as part of a plan to build 6,000 housing units throughout Israel. According to a statement from the ministry, 500 homes will be built in Har Homa in south Jerusalem, 348 in the West Bank settlement of Betar Illit, and 180 in Givat Ze’ev, which lies between Jerusalem and Ramallah. The tender is one of the last major bureaucratic steps for a 930-unit project in Har Homa. The ministry published the tender for the remaining 430 units a month ago. However, it will still be a number of years before the infrastructure – including roads, sewage pipes and electricity – will be completed.

The tenders are for housing to be constructed within existing settlement blocs close to the Green Line, which previous peace proposals have suggested would remain part of Israel in a land swap agreement.

In a separate development, The Jerusalem Magistrate’s Court has rejected two separate lawsuits seeking the eviction of two Palestinian families from homes in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan.
