Jordan’s King Abdullah II yesterday met separately with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and Quartet Envoy Tony Blair to discuss the Israeli-Palestinian meetings that took place last week and on Monday in Amman. Abbas told reporters that a third meeting would be held on 26 January. Meanwhile, in his meeting with Blair, King Abdullah called for an intensifying of effort to resume peace talks with a goal of establishing a Palestinian state.

King Abdullah’s meetings took place ahead of a planned trip to Washington. The White House announced that President Barack Obama would host King Abdullah on Tuesday where the two leaders will discuss advancing the Israeli-Palestinian peace process and economic and security issues in the region.
