Investigators link Iranian bombers in Thailand and India blast

[ssba]

Thai investigators believe they have found a link between this week’s bomb blasts in Bangkok and New Delhi, a senior Thai security official said on Wednesday. Responding to questions, Thai National Security Council Secretary Wichian Podphosri said the explosives used in India and Thailand had the same “magnetic sheets” used to attach the explosive devices.

Yesterday, a man carrying an Iranian passport was severely wounded when a bomb he was carrying in Bangkok went off after an earlier explosion, apparently accidental, at a house he was renting. Police said the Iranian man had been charged with illegal possession of explosives, causing explosions, attempted murder and assaulting a police officer.

On Monday in New Delhi, a car bomb moderately wounded an Israeli embassy official who was picking up her children from school. The woman is now in a stable condition after surgery to her spine and liver.  Also on Monday, Israeli officials said an attempt to bomb an embassy car in Tbilisi failed and the device was defused.

Israel has accused Iran of carrying out the bombings, a charge Tehran has denied – with an Iranian foreign ministry spokesman stating Israel was behind the bombing of its own embassies.
