Israel clashes with Salafi terrorists in Gaza

Strikes by Israel’s Air Force over the weekend killed two leading Salafi Islamist terrorists in Gaza after rockets continued to be fired from the area into Israel.

The IDF have said that over the past few days more than 40 rockets have been fired from Gaza into southern Israel. Although nobody was injured in these attacks, they included five mortar shells fired on Saturday and a Grad missile launched on Sunday, which triggered sirens in Netivot and landed in the back garden of a family home, causing damage to the property.

Last night, Israel’s air force killed three members of a terror cell belonging to the Popular Resistance Committees, which was reportedly about to launch a rocket attack. The incident came just a day after the Israel Air Force struck and killed two terrorists travelling on a motorbike in northern Gaza. They were identified as members of a Salafi Islamist terror group, inspired by although independent from al-Qaida. The commander, Hisham Al-Saedni headed the ‘One God and Holy War’ terror group and according to the Israeli army he and his accomplice had been firing rockets into southern Israel, taken part in past terror attacks on Israel from the Sinai Peninsula and were in the final stages of plotting a new attack.

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu told his cabinet on Sunday, “The global jihad is stepping up its efforts to harm us, and we will continue to act against it aggressively and powerfully, both reactively and pre-emptively.”

Israel holds Hamas responsible for attacks from Gaza, because it has ruled the area since 2007. However, the two have largely maintained a tacit truce since a major conflict nearly four years ago.
