Israeli officials have confirmed that Daniel Taub is the Israeli foreign ministry’s chosen candidate to be the next Israeli Ambassador the UK. Taub currently serves as the Principal Deputy Legal Advisor at Israel’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where his main areas of responsibility include counterterrorism, international organisations and humanitarian law. He is widely admired as an articulate and accomplished advocate for Israel’s cause. Confirmation of the appointment is pending the approval of the Israeli cabinet.

Taub has been a member of Israel’s negotiating teams in both the Israeli-Palestinian and Israel-Syria negotiations. He was the Israeli lead negotiator on the Culture of Peace track with the Palestinians during the Annapolis process in 2008. He was also part of the Israeli team that participated in the short-lived negotiation process with the Palestinians that began in September 2010.

As a legal expert he has represented Israel in many international fora, including the hearings on Israel’s security fence in the International Court of Justice, and on the flotilla incident at the United Nations.

Taub, who was born and grew up in the UK, holds degrees from the universities of Oxford, London and Harvard, where he was a Wexner fellow. He has taught extensively in the fields of international law, negotiation theory and Middle Eastern issues at numerous universities and policy institutes.

He also wrote a popular Israeli TV drama show called HaChatzer about ultra Orthodox Jews.

Taub lives in Jerusalem with his wife Zehava and their six children.
