Israel demolishes illegal houses in West Bank outpost

[ssba]

Three buildings in the West Bank outpost of Migron were demolished early this morning after the Supreme Court issued an order sanctioning the demolition. The three buildings, built this year, were ordered to be destroyed by the Supreme Court, following a petition by an Israeli human rights group. Around 200 settlers assembled in the outpost and tried to make their way to the structures, hoping to stop the bulldozers in their tracks. Six youths were arrested. Migron, situated 14km north of Jerusalem, is the largest outpost in the West Bank and according to the Supreme Court, was built illegally on private Palestinian land.

Shortly after the demolition, a group of settlers arrived at the village of Qusra near Migron and threw burning tires toward the village mosque. According to Palestinian sources, the settlers also broke several of the mosque’s windows. The event is the latest in a series of clashes between settlers and Palestinians in the West Bank. According to the Palestinian Ma’an news agency, settlers also threw rocks at Palestinian vehicles near the settlement of Yitzhar, resulting in several instances of smashed windows.
