The websites of the IDF, Mossad, the Shin Bet (Security Services) and several government portal services crashed yesterday in a suspected cyber attack by hackers. The crashing of the sites took place after a threat by the international hackers group known as Anonymous who said they would carry out a cyber attack on Israel in response to its interception of two Gaza-bound ships on Friday.

Israeli officials said that they will investigate the issue and noted that only the public sites were down and that internal networks were working as normal. Meanwhile, the Israeli government yesterday denied that it was a cyber attack and an IDF spokesperson said that it was most likely a malfunction with the servers. Israel, last May, established a national taskforce to prevent cyber style attacks on its computer networks.
