Israeli killed, three wounded in accidental IDF shooting in West Bank

A 55-year-old Israeli citizen was accidentally shot and killed early on Friday morning in southern Hebron in the West Bank. Initial reports indicate that IDF soldiers had erected a makeshift checkpoint between Yatta and Hebron after receiving an intelligence tip off. The incident took place when an Israeli vehicle did not notice the checkpoint and drove through without stopping. IDF forces attempted to flag down and stop the vehicle. When the vehicle showed no signs of slowing down, IDF forces responded thinking that the vehicle was carrying out a terrorist attack and opened fire.  A 55-year-old man was killed and two other passengers in the car were wounded. A few moments later a Palestinian truck struck an IDF soldier standing on the side of the road near the scene of the shooting. They were evacuated to the Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital after the incident.

GOC Central Command Avi Mizrachi said that an investigation would be opened into the incident.
