New flotilla with 30 activists leaves Turkey destined for Gaza

The Israeli Navy is tracking two ships that departed Wednesday from Turkey which plan to head to Gaza and to break the navy blockade. The new flotilla is carrying between 20 to 30 activists and originally left Turkey announcing their destination as Rhodes. The organisers of the flotilla told Haaretz that the organising and planning was kept secret until the two vessels entered international waters. The flotilla called “Freedom Waves to Gaza” is made up a ship named “Al-Tahrir” and a yacht named “the Saoirse” which are carrying pro-Palestinian activists mainly from Canada and Ireland and a load of aid and medicines valued at $30,000.

The IDF estimate that the ships will arrive in Gaza on Thursday night or early Friday morning. The IDF plans to intercept the ships if they attempt to breach the maritime blockade of Gaza and will redirect their course to the Ashdod port or offer them to dock in an Egyptian port.
