A truck plowed into several cars, motorcycles and pedestrians on Sunday morning in Tel Aviv killing one person and wounding 16 others. Police suspect that the incident was a terrorist attack and are investigating the matter further.

The incident occurred around 9:35am (Israel time) yesterday morning on Barlev Street in Southern Tel Aviv, when a 22-year-old driver, a resident of Kfar Qasem an Arab Israeli village, plowed into several cars and pedestrians before speeding off. He was later arrested and denied that the incident was a deliberate attempt to cause harm. The man who was killed was identified as 29-year-old Aviv Morag, who was sitting in his car before the truck struck it. Police Spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said, “Based on the level of destruction, and the number of people who have been injured and one person killed, it looks as if this was deliberate, but the investigation is still ongoing.”

The incident occurred on a heightened security alert across Israel as Palestinians marked Nakba Day, the annual day of protest against the creation of the State of Israel.
